Establish your intention to stay in your residence until adequate terms are reached.

Below is a template you may use in an email and a post-mailed letter to Beverly Chaney (bchaney@uci.edu), head of the heat treatment project at Verano. CC your emails to the Verano Residence Council (vrc@uci.edu) so they can keep tally on protest letters.

Make the language your own and express any other frustrations you have with your specific living situation (e.g. kids, disabilities, pets, artwork, installations, etc.).

Dear Beverly (& VRC),

Until Verano Place provides evidence of legal authority to compel the displacement and temporary eviction of its residents, I plan to stay with my family and my property in my residence for the duration of the proposed February-May termite heat treatment plan. Tenants have a legal right to “quiet possession” of their rental unit based on CA Civil Code Section 1927.

I was not given adequate notice or terms of compensation, liability, and security for this Spring’s planned project. I demand VP not move forward on the scheduled plans for heat treatment until we have reached a negotiation of terms that satisfies our tenants’ rights for quiet possession, compensation, liability, advanced notice, and delay of the current March 2015 proposal.
